“This week apple released the thing that does stuff that their other stuff already does”
We all know that Apple takes other peoples products and just redoes them and claims to have created a whole new, first of its kind product. But seriously, if you’re just going to make a phone way too big then you have to make sure no one else did it already. Here’s the Magnum (seriously, do they all need sex related names?) which i a giant Windows Mobile tablet but it has one huge advantage over the iPad – it’s a damn phone! take a look:

Oh and yes, the Magnum was a joke…but so is the iPad so we’re even:)
You mean this site could have been around for years?! Turns out Fujitsu released the first iPad in 2002. Let’s also remember that the name iPhone was also someone else’s trademark…seriously Apple – there are plenty of names that are original…go get one. I still think that if you’re serious about shattering the records just call it the iShat and we’ll stop making fun of the name of your products:) Ok but getting back to it, the description of the iPad (no the original, not the carbon copy) has a bunch of the soundbites we’re still hearing today. Yup ‘radically changed’, ‘The iPAD goes anywhere – to do virtually anything’ ‘Fujitsu’s iPAD features a bright, color touch-screen that works both inside the store and in bright sunlight.’ ‘VoIP phone capability’ and ‘Bright, color touch-screen’. And seriously, they look identical!
Well except the original iPad had a keyboard and worked as a phone so it’s clearly the better of the two devices:)
To our German speaking viewers, I’m sure this isn’t terribly funny, but I find it hilarious.. (in all its various remakes)
I was reading this thread at Gizmodo the comments quickly turned into a ‘best knock knock’ joke competition. Here are some of them, starting with my favorite:
Knock knock.
Who’s there?
iPad.
iPad who?
What do you mean iPad who? Haven’t you seen the internet? I’m a bloody iPad!
OMG they were so far ahead of their time we couldn’t see the genius in it all…
Ok so you made it bigger and you increased the resolution. But you increased the size of the screen at a higher rate then the resolution was increased. What’s that mean? The screen quality is downright sh!tty. It may be bright. It may be pretty. But it’s not sharp. It’s a lower pixel resolution than the iPhone and multiples below phones that have been out for years. Just take a look:
| Phone | Resolution | Total Pixels | Screen Size | Pixels Per Inch (Pixel Density) |
| iPad
iPhone |
1024×768 (XGA)
320×480(HVGA) |
786,432
153,600 |
9.7”
3.5” |
132
163 |
| Touch HD | 480×800(WVGA) | 384,000 | 3.8” | 246 |
| Touch Pro | 480×640(VGA) | 307,200 | 2.8” | 287 |
| Tilt | 240×320(QVGA) | 76,800 | 2.8” | 143 |
So the Tilt stopped being sold about two years ago and the Touch Pro is a year old and isn’t sold new any longer. Both are sharper and the Touch Pro (or the Diamond or Fuze as you may know it) is more than twice as sharp. It’s nice to have a large pad for those high flow days…but there’s more to it then size (yes Steve, I know – that’s what she said)
Alright, the lines are open. Can you one-up Steve-o and come up with a better name than iPad? I tried and iGina is the best I could do:) But I am looking forward to the updated iPad – man the Max iPad is going to be the best second gen device ever!
